It's been quite a year since our last Steps to a Cure walk in Sept 2017.
I had my autologous stem-cell transplant at the Ottawa General Hospital in November 2017. While November and December were not the best of days, by January I was returning to regular self and soon after, I was downhill skiing, mountain biking and dragonboating.
The transplant provided very good results in reducing the amount of cancer cells in my marrow, but as this disease remains evasive, there remains a number of cancer cells. I'm now on daily maintenance chemo to hold the cancer down to a level where I remain asymptomatic (SMILE). But... eventually, this drug will lose it's efficacy and I will be up for my second stem-cell transplant. After this, I'll put on new drugs that will hopefully be more effective in battling the cancer than the current drugs that are used to treat Myeloma today.
This is where you come in..
In this annual event, I'm working to raise money in support of Myeloma Canada and The Ottawa Hospital by participating in the Ottawa-Gatineau Walk for Myeloma, Steps to a Cure!
By making a donation to me or the team, you are helping to fund clinical research and to support advocacy for accelerated access to game-changing therapies for Canadian myeloma patients. You are also supporting the Ottawa General Hospital who is involved in research, clinical trails and direct care to area Myeloma patients.
Please make a donation today and help me to reach my fundraising goal!
