Thank you for supporting our Myeloma Matadors Team again this year in the annual walk to support Multiple Myeloma (MM) research. Last year’s Ottawa-Gatineau March was a huge success raising close to $75,000. Our Myeloma Matadors Team contributed just over $16,000 thanks to your generosity!
When I was first diagnosed with MM I was told that the average life span with the disease was 5 years! Though not encouraging, I was determined to beat the odds. And here I am over 5 years later in much better shape than when I started on this journey. Amazing really! And I continue to well on my current drug protocol. My cancer numbers have been reduced significantly with relatively few side effects. Good news! Unfortunately, the timeline for the effectiveness of the protocol is limited. I am hoping that new research and new drugs will be available to ensure that my current level of remission is sustainable. A cure would be perfect!
While research continues into effective treatments for the disease and promising drugs are on the horizon, MM remains a relatively unknown and incurable form of blood cancer. Supporting research and raising awareness of the disease is critical. Not only does this research immediately benefit MM patients (and I am an example!) but it contributes to our broader understanding of the causation and treatments for a variety of other cancers. Your donation counts!
My dear friends, Bendicte Brueder and Elizabeth Etue have volunteered to co-captain the Myeloma Matador Team with me and will be reaching out to their network of contacts to expand our funding outreach. Working together and with your support we are hopeful that we can surpass last year’s fundraising achievement and have set this year's Team goal at 18,000$. Ambitious…but exciting!
Thank you again for your ongoing support!
