…a live dance performance benefit for Myeloma Canada
“It was like watching liquid on stage. I didn’t want it to end.” (Mooney on Theatre)
The animals are planning an intervention is a contemporary dance work created and performed by Lucy Rupert of Blue Ceiling dance. It is a lush and emotional visceral conversation about the bittersweetness of being a human animal aware of its own mortality. Created in 2011 and reworked for camera in 2022, it has deepened to explore the process of melting in insects, the neurological connection of the gut to the brain, and more personally for Lucy, the experience of reaching the same age that her mother was when she died of multiple myeloma.
Lucy has long wanted to do a special performance in honour of her mother and in support of Myeloma Canada. A further inspiration to make this project happen now is the passing of the inimitable Helen Donnelly to multiple myeloma in January 2022. Helen was a pioneer in developing a training program for therapeutic clowning, as well as a sparkling wit and unmatchable performer. Tickets are by donation.
Live performance: April 29, 2022 at 8:00 pm (EST) on VIMEO. On demand access until May 5, 2022 at 11:59pm (EST)
Choreographer/Performer: Lucy Rupert
Donation: Tax receipts will be issued for any donation over $20. You will receive an email with your tax receipt and a link to watch the online performance.
