Many of you have been inspired by Bernd's positivity in his 4 year journey with Multiple Myeloma and his recent challenges with a spinal cord tumour, compressing his spinal cord, resulting in loss of mobility. He had surgery on March 1st to remove the tumour, but this has left him with increased mobility deficits. He is presently a patient in the Intensive Rehabilitation Unit where he will receive intensive physiotherapy and occupational therapy with the goal of walking again, and knowing Bernd, the end goal of cycling!
On March 22nd, Bernd will be celebrating his 70th Birthday in hospital. Prior to his admission he was part of a steering committee to organize a support group for Multiple Myeloma patients in Sudbury.
Myeloma Canada is organizing its first Bike for Myeloma event on May 15th in 3 Canadian locations: Niagara Falls (ON), Red Deer (AB) & Richmond (BC). A virtual option is also available. This inspired our family to plan a Myeloma Canada fundraising "Bike for Bernd" event in Sudbury in early June.
In order to show our support for Bernd as he meets his new challenge head on and to encourage him to remain positive, determined and hopeful, we ask that you register for the ride prior to March 22nd. We will present him with the list of registrants & donors on his big day
Funds raised through The Myeloma Canada Ride will support scientific advancements and impactful research initiatives that enable Canadians with myeloma to live longer and better lives, and to help find a cure.
Your support is gratefully appreciated.
