Glenda and John - Pre-MM
I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in May 2022. It is a cancer of the plasma cells that are produced in my bone marrow and currently there is no cure only treatment. I am encouraged that there are new treatment options, drug trials and drugs being developed. We are raising money in support of Myeloma Canada by participating in the Myeloma Canada Ride. John will be riding and leading our team the Chain Breakers in the Richmond 70 km ride on May 28th. The name was chosen as a nod to one of the blood tests called light chains that I have done to monitor the status of my myeloma. There are currently 4 others riding with him. The ride has 2 routes, 30 and 70km. If you would like to join the team and ride with John or do the shorter route with other riders there is a $50 registration fee that goes towards running the event, promotions and refreshments. An alternative, especially for those that don't live in the Lower Mainland, is to join the virtual ride with no registration fee and raise funds for Multiple Myeloma research. That team is being led by our son Tyler and his wife Karalyn.
Currently John is being joined by our best man Al and his son Kevin and his wife Chloe; our son CJ and his wife Ming; along with a few more of John's firefighting co-workers - Steve and Pat. Riding internationally, Roy Evans from Birmingham, UK will be doing his part by riding around the city and surrounding areas ... and due to the time zone difference, he'll be done even before we turn a single crank.
