I'll bet you never heard of myeloma, right? Maybe you're thinking its related to melanoma? I know that was our first reaction and thought. They are not related at all except that they are both forms of cancer. Myeloma, however, is a rare disease. . Myeloma is a cancer of the blood plasma (white blood cells).
This rare disease was introduced to our lives when Sylvie's brother in law, Rene, was diagnosed. None of us knew anything about this disease except that it was incurable and incredibly rare. Rene passed away from myeloma and we both miss his kindness, generosity, and his sense of humour among his many qualities.
Sadly, myeloma has made a second appearance in our lives. Our great friend, Antoine - the most fit human being we know on this planet and the one with the biggest heart and wellspring of compassion, was recently diagnosed.
As a young father, Antoine is setting out on his path by sharing his energy and hopeful outlook that in 5 years form now, more research will be done and maybe more people will survive longer - ever if it is just a small percentage - that is more human lives saved.
To accomplish this goal, myeloma research will require funding and that is why we are asking for your support: to help support Antoine and to continue to remember Rene.
