My Myeloma Story

In 2019, at just 45 years old, I was diagnosed with smouldering multiple myeloma. Within two years, it progressed to active myeloma. I remember vividly how the world seemed to tilt, how the word cancer suddenly became part of my vocabulary. I wasn?t ready. I had a life to live, a child to raise, and dreams still unfolding. Dying hadn?t even crossed my mind?.until it did.

The hardest part isn?t the treatments or the side effects. It?s the quiet ache in my heart when I think about my daughter. She?s still so young. The thought of not being there for her milestones. Her first heartbreak, her graduation, her triumphs and stumbles. Cuts deeper than any diagnosis ever could.

Multiple myeloma used to be considered an older person?s disease. But increasingly, more young people like me are being diagnosed. Maybe it?s better screening. Maybe it?s something else, but what?s clear is that this illness doesn?t discriminate and it doesn?t wait.
