Along with my family and my dog Max, I am going to be doing the 5K MM March on October 4th.  Here's my "why" or rather three of them:

  1. To raise money for research and treatment innovation. In April 2016, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable cancer. Without current advances in research and treatment innovations, I would not have lived more than a few years and most certainly would not have lived through this past summer (again!).
  2. To raise money for support services. I am very blessed to have a huge support network of family and friends who are there for me for the big, and the little things. Physical, spiritual, and mental. Not everyone is so fortunate, and many people rely on the support services.
  3. Advocacy. Not all available treatment options are funded by the public health system. There are big discrepancies in coverage between provinces, quite literally meaning that lifesaving treatments may not be available for people who need them depending on where they live. Or may not be available to Canadians at all. This is wrong.
