I raise money for Myeloma Canada because...
Fifteen years ago, I was first introduced to multiple myeloma while leading a patient advocacy team in the pharmaceutical industry. My first file in this position - and challenge - was to bring myeloma patient group leaders from across the country together to convey the importance to decision makers responsible for listings on provincial drug formularies of the need to fund a new myeloma drug. The treatment was the first to become available in a very long time. This challenge required dedication, time and resources and sparked the beginning of what has become the preeminent patient organization in Canada which I have the privilege to now lead. I believed in the Mission then and I believe in it even more so today. This is why I need your help to ensure we become even better in delivering on our mission.
Fifteen years ago, only one therapy was available to treat myeloma and the prognosis for a newly diagnosed patient was a mere 2-3 years. Tremendous progress has been made since then, with exceptional drug and technology developments and research advancements. We are finally seeing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to finding a possible cure. The money we raise through our flagship Multiple Myeloma Marches goes to help support the researchers, the clinical trials and to improve various health policies that will help us get closer to finding treatments to cure this disease.
This year brings additional challenges to everyone, so everyone has had to adapt quickly. We are experiencing an increase in kindness and the generosity of people to help others in need.
Please help me in helping the myeloma community and by doing so you are also helping them yourself. I thank you in advance for supporting me in my Myeloma Canada March challenge in walking a total of 360 km.
I'm at 275 km of 360 km.
