Hello,
My name is, Amy da Silva, and I am raising money in support of Multiple Myeloma Canada by participating in the Mary Lake Walk on May 13, 2023. I will be doing this 35km walk on behalf of my mother Fatima.
On March 3, 2023 our family received the most shocking news, my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma at the age of 60. Like many, we had never heard of this illness let alone know it was a type of cancer. Multiple Myeloma is a type of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow. As you can imagine many tears were shed, we felt anger and many times we found ourselves saying “Why her?”, “She doesn’t deserve this!”, etc… She started her chemo treatments on March 8th, 2023 (International Woman’s Day), which happened so quickly from the time of diagnosis. Once her chemo is done she will need to get a stem cell transplant, which will make the upcoming months a tough road ahead.
My mom is my best friend and truly the strongest woman & fighter I know!! She has always been the one taking care of our family and willing to help others around her without a hesitation. Even now with what she is going through she continues to do so & not let this get her down. Although this type of cancer is not curable, but yes treatable I KNOW she will continue to be the fighter she has always been her whole life and get through this bump in the road. I am beyond proud to call her my mother & have her as my role model.
Every year my mother has done the Mary Lake walk to King City from Toronto, which is a pilgrimage walk in celebration of “Nossa Senhora de Fatima”. As she is unable to do the walk this year I have decided to do the walk on her behalf to help give her the love, support, strength and all the positive vibes she needs to deal with the upcoming months of treatments. Not only do I want to do this for my mom, but I want to do this for everyone that is going through this illness and help bring awareness to those that have never heard about it. The walk will be happening on May 13th, 2023 and if anyone would like to join me on this walk and help the circle of love and strength be even larger for my mom to fight through this I would be beyond grateful.
By making a donation to Multiple Myeloma, you are supporting the pursuit of curing and preventing the disease, accelerating access to the best care, while empowering and improving the lives of all Canadians affected by myeloma.
Please make a donation today and help me reach my fundraising goal!
Thank You In Advance For Your Donation :)
I'm at 0 km of 35 km.
