Attention participants

In an effort to fight spam, the providers of our event software are instituting a new policy regarding the Participant Center email feature, effective March 7, 2023. The Participant Center emails will be turned off until the participant receives their first donation. This helps ensure that the participant sending emails is a real person. You can either elect to make the first gift toward your goal at a minimum of $5 to kick off your fundraising, or copy your personal page URL and send that to friends and family via personal email or social media. Thank you for understanding.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I need to register online before the event?

Yes, please. We ask that you register online prior to the Ride in the location that you plan on participating. It only takes a few minutes and ensures that we have all the information we need to plan your event at. Registration is $50 per rider. There is no registration fee if you are participating in the Virtual Ride.

You can choose to participate individually, or as part of a team. To find out more, visit the see steps to register here.

2. How can I participate if there is no Ride in my community?

No Ride? No problem! The Virtual Ride is designed for riders who are unable participate at one of the in-person events, or who wish to create their own cycling challenge. Set up your challenge using the Personal Distance Tracker!

3. Is there a minimum fundraising amount to participate in the Ride?

All funds raised are greatly appreciated and helps us move closer to finding a cure. We encourage riders to set a minimum target of $350.

4. How do I see who has donated to me or my team?
  1. Login into your Participant Centre. Here are the steps: Registering for the Myeloma Canada Ride.
  2. If you’re registering as part of a team, it is important to note that a donor can either make a donation to a participant, or directly to the team. Therefore, in the Participant Centre, the donations will be split up as such.
  3. Click on the “home” tab. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and there will be a section called “personal donations”. These are the donors that have donated to your personal page. Next, if you click on the tab “my team” (just above the “Your fundraising progress” section, you can toggle to the team donations by clicking on “My Team”. Those who donated directly to the team will be listed under team donations. It is important to note that the team total is the total amount raised by the team.

5. Someone made a donation to my team but I cannot see it on my page, why is that?

It depends on where and how the donation was made. Firstly, the donor has the choice to make their name, donation amount, or both, anonymous to the public. Therefore, on your personal or team webpage, the donation may show in your list of donors as name only, donation amount only, or not at all. In any case, the donation is still counted in your fundraising total. You’ll still be able to see a full list and donation amount in your Participant Centre by following the steps in question 6.

Secondly, if you are part of a team, the donor has the choice to make a donation to a personal team member, or to the team itself. Therefore, their donation will appear on the page where the donation was made. Rest assured, all donations made to either the participant or to the team, are tallied into the team total. For example, let’s say Mary and Mark are part of Team Myeloma. Mary receives a donation of $20, and Mark receives a donation of $20. Each of their personal pages will reflect a donation of $20, and the Team Page will show $40. However, if a donor makes a donation directly to Team Myeloma for $40, the Team Page will show a donation of $40, but both Mary and Mark’s pages will show $0. Therefore, the team total is the true total.

6. How do I find a participant or a team to make a donation?

Visit www.myelomaride.ca and click on "Make a Donation";. There will be an option to search for a participant, team or city. Type in the appropriate information and the search results will appear. Select the participant you intend to donate to by clicking the “Donate Now” tab next to their name in the Search Results.

7. I would like to make a donation by cash or cheque, or phone-in by credit card. Can I do this?

Absolutely, in fact, the sooner you mail in your donations with the Offline donation form the sooner your fundraising thermometer will rise on your webpage. If you don’t have a printer to print out the Offline donation form, please clearly indicate (under who’s name or team the donation goes) your complete contact information, and your email address for tax receipt purposes. Please note that online donations made to you or your team are instantaneous! As soon as a donation is made online, you'll receive an email to confirm the donation.

Please mail offline donation forms to:

8. What if I can’t bike the entire route?

No worries! Whether you bike the entire route or not, your participation is what counts and helps us move closer to finding a cure. If you need to cut your ride short, there will be a 'sweep' or 'chase' vehicle to drive you to the next rest stop or finishing point.

9. What is the Ride’s cancellation policy?

All Rides will take place rain or shine. In the event that an event does need to be cancelled, we will notify you the night before the event, no later than 9 pm. Should the event you are planning to attend by cancelled, we encourage you to hold a Virtual Ride at the date and time of your choosing.

10. What should I do before travelling to the Ride?
  • Check that your bike is ready to roll. Here are a few tips.
  • Ensure your mobile phone is charged.
  • Ensure that the route is uploaded to your mobile phone and that you print a copy of the cue sheet.
  • Pack your helmet, gloves, and cycling shoes.
  • Bring clothing and items for the weather conditions and distance you plan to ride (i.e., wind breaker, rain jacket, fleece, gloves, fitness pants, sunscreen, etc.)
  • Bring a tool kit (i.e., tire leavers, patches, pump, multi-tool, extra tubes and spokes).
  • Bring a water bottle and snacks even though we will be providing food and beverages.
  • Cash/credit card/medicare card/Provincial Healthcare card.

11. When should I arrive at the Ride?
  • We recommend that you arrive early to check your bike and get ready to roll.
  • Please check the Registration time specific to the Ride you are attending.

  • Bring appropriate clothing.
  • Communicate your intention to overtake, turn or stop to other riders.
  • Point out hazards to other cyclists.

13. Will cyclists be leaving the start at the same time or in intervals?

Cyclists will leave the start location in small waves of cyclists at 5 to 10 min. intervals with those doing the longer route leaving first. This will avoid congestion and limit passing on the road.

Rest Stops

Rest stops will be highlighted on the route maps. At the stops, there will be refreshments to keep you energized, washrooms, and First Aid kits.

14. What if I get a flat tire or my bike breaks down?

There will be a mechanic at the start of the Ride who will help fix minor mechanical issues. At registration, on the day of the Ride, you will be given a telephone number that you can call in the event you experience a mechanical problem along the route. One of the volunteer roving vehicles will then be dispatched to you. We recommend that you take your bike out for a spin and do a tune-up before the event.

15. What if I get too tired to finish the route?

If you’re getting tired and need to stop, a roving vehicle will give you a lift back to the start location.
