Please join me in my ride for hope. Hope for my family and their future.
Last year, my son-in-law was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Myeloma is a cancer that attacks the plasma cells in blood. As a result, it is not a curable cancer. The average age of those at diagnosis is 70. My son-in-law was 38 when we was diagnosed. Those under 40 account for less than 2% of myeloma cases.
In the last year, he has undergone many rounds of chemotherapy and in January of this year, he underwent a bone marrow transplant (also called a stem cell transplant) where he had to remain in hospital for 3 weeks. This has been a difficult year for his whole family, including my daugher, my grandchildren, who are 3 and 1. They currently live in Edmonton and, being in Toronto, I struggle to try to find ways to help them from a distance.
This year, Myeloma Canada, a non-profit dedicated to advancing research and providing support to those diagnoses, is putting on a cylcing event for people to raise money. All the funds raised will go towards advancing cancer research and hopefully, one day, finding a cure. Particularly in these hard times when science and research is being attacked in the U.S., it's more important than ever to rely on our community, friends and family, for raising money.
I plan to ride 70km for Myeloma Canada on May 24 in Niagara. OR you can ride 30km.
Please join me.
IF biking is not your thing, no worries, a donation would be greatly appreciated. OR you can join us for the 5k Multiple Myeloma walk in October.
I will be happy to provide bike transportation to the start line.
And, I will provide all the logistical details at a later date. Start time, route etc.
See you at the start line.
With thanks
Anita
