2024 Chain breakers in the rain
May 12th this year will be our 35th wedding anniversary and the same day 3 years ago that I was told I had multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells that are produced in my bone marrow. X-Rays and scans showed that I had “luciencies” or holes in many bones in my body. As a nurse for 35 years I have looked after patients who have had a diagnosis of many types of cancer but have never heard of multiple myeloma. I was told there is no cure, just treatment and I was then seen at the cancer clinic in Surrey and formulated a plan. We had recently learned that we would be grandparents for the first time and I told my oncologist that I intend to see all my grandchildren grow up. Fast forward 3 years and we have 2 amazing grandkids and #3 due in August. I had a stem cell transplant of my own cells on January 18, 2023 with some tough months that followed but the end result was that it worked and the monthly blood work that I have done shows that I am in remission. This will be the 3rd year that Team Chainbreakers have been part of the Myeloma Ride and the first time I will also been riding in the virtual ride in Vernon on May 31.
By making a donation to me and our team you are supporting the pursuit of curing and preventing the disease, accelerating access to the best care, while empowering and improving the lives of all Canadians affected by myeloma.
