In May, 2018, my life changed forever. What I thought was anemia was actually the second most-common blood cancer, Multiple Myeloma (myeloma) which, incidentally, is currently incurable! It's been quite a ride since then:
- induction chemo in 2018
- an autologous stem cell transplant in November, 2018
- 5 years' remission kept in check by Revlimid (lenalidomide)
- a relapse in November, 2023
- another round of drugs (isatuximab, carfilzomib and dexamethasone) beginning in March, 2024
- an adjustment of drugs in September, 2024 due to intolerance
I finally have some energy again, and decided to ride in the Myeloma Canada Ride to Beat Myeloma again this year, having missed last year.
The money raised by this ride will support the pursuit of curing and preventing multiple myeloma and accelerating access to the best care, while empowering and improving the lives of all Canadians affected by myeloma.
